After creating the song model, it helped me to start off creating the first draft of beatmaking. In the first class of the week, I have created a few tracks which includes a piano melody, snubby bass as well as a pre-set drum kits. It starts off with a one bar intro (as written in the song model) of the drums and then the melody hits right onto the first beat of the new bar. There is a total of four bars melody for the so-called “Verse 1” alongside with the drums ongoing and the bass. It then proceeds to “Verse 2” with a much syncopated rhythm as compared to “Verse 1”. I decided to use a 1 bar section as pre-chorus with only the piano excluding the drums and bass to build up for the chorus. The chorus then continues with the piano, drums and bass altogether. As advised by Mr. George, the bass does not seem to interact nicely and is lack of togetherness with the drums. Therefore, the foremost solution to this would be to quantize the bass so that it hits on time together with the drum beats.
However, I am still aiming for a much pop-ish tune for my song instead of an instrumental piece. This way, I would be able to discover more instruments to compliment each other as I’ve heard from my reference song. I am currently working on two separate pieces with rather distinctive sounds from each other though it may sound distracting to work on. I will try to give equal thoughts and try-outs to each piece to eventually find out the tune that I am looking for.
By the way, one of the few Logic shortcuts I have learned this week are undo, record and save. Hopefully more to come. That is all for this week.
